May 31, 11 a.m. — Paul Ghosthorse
Paul Ghosthorse Paul Sahayda Ghosthorse, a Lakota ceremonial leader, discovered the Native spiritual path in his twenties while working with the Ojibwe elder Sun Bear. Through Sun Bear, Paul was introduced to many Native elders who became his mentors and teachers. For many years, he traveled with his adoptive father, Buck Ghosthorse, who lectured on college campuses and conducted traditional ceremonies. During this time, Paul was taught these ceremonies and later began lecturing and sharing these traditions himself. Paul recently completed a 16-year commitment in service to the Sangleska Oyate Sundance in Washington State. He has also helped reintroduce the ancient and nearly forgotten ceremonies of Welcoming the Thunders and Honoring of the Black Bear to North Carolina. In addition to his ceremonial work, Paul is a professional cellist educated at the Johns Hopkins University Peabody Conservatory. He taught in public schools for many years, performed with the Asheville Symphony, and has been a featured performer at the Biltmore Estate for more than 30 years.

June 7, 11 a.m. — Mariela Andersen Mariela Andersen For over a decade, Mariela has worked with children through education, mindfulness, and creativity — interpreting for Deaf students, teaching yoga, and facilitating art and movement sessions in shelters and community spaces. She is a certified children’s yoga instructor and author of "Squirrel's Big Question," a story that mirrors her own path of adoption and self-discovery, encouraging young readers to explore identity, belonging, and the courage to be themselves. Through her volunteer work with drawchange — a nonprofit providing art therapy for impoverished and unhoused children — Mariela served in Ethiopia and along the border, supporting programs that use creative expression as a tool for emotional healing and empowerment. Today, she channels all of these experiences into guiding others — both children and adults — back to their center. Combining mindfulness, presence, and spiritual insight, she helps people econnect with their inner wisdom and remember the wholeness that has always been within them.
